I am sorry that I have not posted in a couple of days, but sickness has made its presence known in my home.  Please check back over the next couple of days and I have every intention of getting back on track.

May God bless you...Pastor Eaby

The Bible states...

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Man is doomed for failure.  I know I sound like negative and I have written quite a bit about the endtime, but my message is not one of doom.  It is a message of hope.  Although, the end of man is certain death according to Proverbs 14:12, we have eternal hope through Jesus Christ...

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

We cannot save ourselves through our own works...

Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Jesus is our hope.  The path created by man is one of destruction, but there is a path to eternal life...

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Which path are you on?

The scripture states...

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.

Perhaps, I am the only one that feels that this scripture describes the world that we live in, but I do firmly believe it.  I do not always want to paint a negative picture of our current society, but there is a famine of the truth.  We live in a land of plenty, but neglect the Word of God.  The Bible states...

2Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

There is a definite need for those that are willing to stand and teach and preach the truth.  The Bible states...

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

When we preach and teach the truth,  then lives can be changed at an altar.  On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached the truth and the Bible states...

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

I challenge you to speak to someone this week the truth of Word of God.  We can determine that in our community there will be no famine of the Word of God.

I am sorry that I was unable to post yesterday.

I have received in the mail 400 cards for Impact 2008. For those of you that read this blog and do not attend Cornerstone Chapel, Impact 2008 is a time that we will be Lifting up a Banner according to Isaiah 13:2.  Lifting a banner was a sign to the mighty men to prepare for war and we are stepping out on faith to present a unified front and claim our community for Jesus Christ.  It is not enough to just have church, but we need to be offensive.  The Bible states...

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Gates are defensive.  They are to protect those inside from those on the outside. We must be determined to storm the gates of hell with the gospel of Jesus Christ and pull them from the fire...

Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

What a powerful testimony of the power of the Holy Ghost...

Why do we baptize in Jesus name?

The very, very simple answer is because the Bible says so, but obviously I need to back that up with scripture.  Here they are...

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (see January 21 posting)

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There are other scriptures and historical references supporting Jesus name baptism, but these should be enough to help each us understand our need to take on the name in baptism.  If we are the bride of Christ then we need to take on His name.  Please do not take my word on it, but I challenge each of you to...

2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Does the trinity exist?

I could simply say no, but I have some scriptures and secular references to back up my answer.  First, the most common sense answer is that the word trinity is not found in the Bible and the Encarta Encyclopedia tells us why...

In the 4th century, the doctrine was finally formulated; using terminology still employed by Christian theologians, the doctrine taught the coequality of the persons of the Godhead.

I suppose the Trinitarian doctrine was formulated using Matthew 28:19 and it states...

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Jesus was speaking to the disciples (v16), but there is no record of them baptizing in the titles of Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  There are many scriptures telling of them baptizing in the name of Jesus starting with Peter preaching on the day of Pentecost...

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Why did Peter hear Jesus say baptize in name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, but preach baptism in Jesus name and the answer is simple...Peter knew that Jesus was the Father, Son and Holy Ghost...

Jesus is the Father...

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Jesus is the Son...

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (notice the Bible states she conceived a child of the Holy Ghost and not the Father)

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Jesus is the Holy Ghost...

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

There have been whole books written on the doctrine of the Oneness of God, but it simply comes down to this...

1Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Leadership is a funny (I do not mean that in a haha way) thing.  I have always wondered how men like David Koresh and Jim Jones found people that followed them and I have no definite answer, but to say that they must have preyed on the weak.  That is an outsiders opinion, but I cannot think of any other logical reason.

Leaders want to lead and weak leaders will lead weak people and if that seems logical than the opposite must be true.  Strong leaders will lead strong people.  Strong leaders are created from strong leadership.  It is essential that spiritual leaders strengthen themselves through prayer, fasting and the word, but it also necessary to submit themselves to strong leadership with a vision to reach the lost.  The disciples are the obvious example of men that had to be molded into strong leaders of the first church.  Jesus took men that society looked down upon and made them the leaders of the church of the book of Acts:

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

A leader is define by his vision.  General Patton would not be held in such high regards as a general if his vision was one of just holding on.  His vision of conquering the Germans and ultimately Europe in a quick, efficient and offensive manner allowed him to stand out from lesser men.  The Germans feared him most of all.

Our enemy fears men and women of God that have vision.  These precious saints become the leaders that God can use because they want to reach their world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  They become the leaders that God uses to spread his word because they do not worry what others say concerning their vision because they know...

2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

It is essential that our vision stay in line with the word of God.  Their are many that have vision, but if it means compromising the apostolic message than it is not of God.  The word does not change and neither should our message.

Have a great day!

I am sorry that I missed posting yesterday...We have unexpected, but welcomed company from the great state of Michigan.

I do want to make an announcement of great proportions.  It is not another sign of the endtime or a revelation found in the scripture, but important to my family.

WE HAVE PURCHASED A NINTENDO Wii.

For those that follow this blog, I posted a couple of times prior to Christmas that I was shopping for a Wii.  I was not in anyway standing out in the cold at 3 AM shopping, but none the less shopping.  I did have to suffer through the humiliation of even asking for a Wii and having the clerks barrel over in laughter, but I have triumphed.

My son and I played the Wii last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it and now my arms are tired from swing tennis rackets and punching during the boxing match.

Have a great day!

I suppose every day there are articles that I could use to point to the endtime...and today is no different.  The headline reads:

FBI wants instant access to British identity data

...with a subtitle of:

Americans seek international database to carry iris, palm and finger prints

I have stated several times before including my last posting that it is difficult to say that God is returning this year or 100 years, but I do know that he is coming.  This is not an endtime blog, but I am somewhat fascinated by the direction that the world is moving and its potential it fulfilling endtime prophecy.  The one thing that we can be sure of concerning the endtime is...

Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Fascination with endtime can sway emotions and cause fear in people, but the most important action that we can take is be ready.  On the day of Pentecost, when Peter was asked by the crowd what they should do, he answered...

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

If you need to be baptized in Jesus name or would like us to pray with you to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, please call me at 540.663.3398.  If you are not in the King George area, please go to www.upci.org and use the church locater to find a church near you or call the number and we can direct you.

I am sorry that I am writing this so late, but some days are busier than others and I am sure everyone can understand...

I was looking online and an article caught my eye.  The headline reads...

Blair speech kindles speculation over EU presidency

This headline may or may not mean anything to you, but for those that understand Biblical prophecy it should at least raise an eyebrow.  The Reuters article written by Nick Antonovics states:

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair kindled speculation he was running to be the first president of the European Union by praising the bloc in a speech in Paris as France prepares to oversee the appointment process.

"Terrorism, security, immigration, organized crime, energy, the environment, science, biotechnology and higher education. In all these areas, and others, we are much stronger and able to deliver what our citizens expect from us as individual nations if we are part of a strong and united Europe," Blair said.

As I have stated in previous posts, it is difficult to point to specific current events and say it is indeed what the scripture spoke of concerning the end time, but this article reveals to me that the possibility certainly exists that the one world government is approaching.

I am aware of the many issues that face the world today and how they could change the way we live.  Our personal liberties become increasingly limited in the name of security and we continue to move to a more global society.  These are all very interesting and should be to every Christian, but the most important thing for any Christian is to be ready and be careful to ensure that you are listening to sound doctrine.  Remember, Jesus warned us to not be deceived.

This is a confirmation of why we baptize in Jesus name...

II was scrolling through the news today and I realized that....Jesus is our hope.

I know that I have blogged several times on Jesus being our hope, but I am more convinced of it every time I read the news.  I challenge you to read the news on a main stream website and find something positive.  The absence of good means that our world needs Jesus for He is the light of this world.  He is our savior and redeemer.

We need to spend time in prayer and fasting so that we are not influenced by the world.  The church needs a few Moses...

Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

Hebrews 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

Hebrews 11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

When we make a decision to serve the Lord, then we should understand that it is for keeps (I haven't said that since 4th grade).  It is a life of dedication to the cause of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, but not because we are somehow programmed to do so.  We serve Him because we love Him and want this lost world to feel His love that has so magnificently changed our lives.

I was reading today and came across this scripture...

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

I thought I could come up with some great thought to expound on, and perhaps I could with some very simple research.  I did look up destroyed in the Hebrew and found it can mean to fail.  What an indictment on the people of God...that they failed because they rejected the Word.  Their rejection of the Word plagued the generations that followed and that is what is most disturbing.

Sin is in the DNA of mankind, but this generation can change genetic malformations that is caused by previous generations...for it is promised in the Word.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Acts 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy...

Our generation can be determined to preach the Word with a commitment not shown by previous generations.  It is our turn to stand on the Word and preach the apostolic message with courage and dedication.

We live in world that is full of sin and it becomes more apparent each day.  We celebrate the Britney Spears of the world while tearing down the positive, but God gives us hope because as the world becomes dirtier...THE GRACE OF GOD BECOMES BIGGER.

Romans 5:20 ...But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound

Thank God for His grace!!!

This week is the start of something great. As a unified body, Cornerstone Chapel is kicking off an initiative that will strengthen and grow the church.  We call it Operation Impact.  Operation Impact is our commitment to knitting ourselves together with the United Pentecostal Church and Global Impact with the vision to double the United Pentecostal Church within 10 years.

As part of this campaign, Cornerstone Chapel has committed to 30 days of prayer and fasting.  Each day, someone from the church will be fasting including a unified three day fast on February 1- 3.  Also, each family is encouraged to conduct a weekly Bible study to strengthen the family and their knowledge of the Word of God.

If you are from the King George/Northern Neck area and would like to join Cornerstone Chapel in this month of praying or would like more information concerning Operation Impact, please email Rev. David B. Schell, our Operation Impact Director at david@cornerstonechapel.cc.

I went to a funeral today and there is something about being at a funeral that makes you check your priorities.  It is easy for me to repeat the almost cliche' list of priorities...

  1. God
  2. Family
  3. Church
  4. Occupation
  5. Recreation

We can quote scripture...

Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Matthew 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

But, it is important to reevaluate your priorities and make sure that they are where they should be. If you are using a compass and are just off a small percentage then you will miss your destination by a large distance, but if you evaluate your location periodically then you will remain on target.

Our priorities need to be constantly evaluated so that we do not become off target for we will miss our destination and that is heaven.

It is such a privilege to be able to serve the Lord.  The psalmist wrote...

Psalms 84:10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Perhaps, we do not fully comprehend the importance of serving the Lord, but eventually we will stand before God and his judgment.  If we were to ask ourselves at this very moment if we have done everything that God has asked of us, what would be our answer?

As a pastor, it is a necessity for me to preach the truth for the scripture clearly states that I will be held responsible...

Ezekial 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

Ezekial 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Ezekial 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

If I compromise the truth, the blood of those that preached to will be upon me, but if I preach the truth found in the Word of God then it is your responsibility.  That seems a little blunt, but it is simply the truth of the Word.  We need to hold on to the truth and love it so that we can make it to heaven....

Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

The commentary page reads the abstinence approach has been a failure...

The editorial was written by Cristina Page the author of "How the Pro-Choice Movement Saved America: Freedom, Politics,  and the war on sex".  She expresses her feelings in this commentary, but perhaps it can be summed up in one statement:

Abstinence- only programs have not only failed to convince kids not to have sex, but have led many not to use contraception...

The writer's approach to this is wrong.  Perhaps, the abstinence programs have not accomplished what they set out to so, but they are working against a popular media that glamorizes everything that is sexual in nature.  The solution is not to teach children not to have sex, but give them a relationship with Jesus Christ and His principles.

1Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Children have sex because it gives pleasure, but also they are not being taught the consequences of sin.  The stigma of being a pregnant teenager has disappeared and has been replaced with acceptance.  Therefore, there are no consequences except that these parents become Dependant on the system and often raise their children in a sub standard environment.

Those that preach immorality have become the voice of America.  Through movies, television and music their message is preached to our youth, but their actions have only robbed several generations of their childhood.

I am sorry Ms.Page, but you are wrong.  When a child is taught the Word of God and the consequences of their actions - abstinence does work for the scripture states:

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Only 364 days to go...and what are you going to do with them?

I am not talking about resolutions, but accomplishments.  Resolutions are made each year and they usually have something to do with a change in behavior and they are often forgotten very quickly.  The question today is what dream are going to capture in 2008?  Is your vision this year to win someone to Jesus?  Perhaps, you want to teach more Bible studies or Sunday school.  Are you willing to emerge from your comfort zone?  Are you willing to stretch beyond your abilities to impact your community for Jesus Christ?

2Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

There were many men and women in the scripture that were considered ordinary, but became extraordinary simply because they made themselves available to God.  They were willing to stand in the gap.  The book of Ezekiel documents God looking for someone to make a difference...

Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

My prayer is that when God is looking for someone in my community in 2008 that He sees me willing to stand in the gap.  I have a desire that 2008 be a year of harvest, but that will take a people willing to step up and make a difference.

Have a Happy New Year from the Eaby family.
