Pastors are accused on a regular basis of just "preaching about money".  I'l admit, it can be a difficult subject to speak about to a congregation, but it is absolutely necessary.  Our church has even made giving as part of our vision/mission statement.

The following is why it is an essential part of our Christian walk:

  • We are to be obedient to God's Word.
Deuteronomy 16:17
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.
  • We will be blessed
Malachi 3:10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it .

  • It will be multiplied
Luke 6:38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
  • It honors God
Proverbs 3:9-10
[9] Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
[10] So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
  • What we receive from God is directly tied to what we receive.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
[6] But this I say , He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
[7] Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
  • It is a form of Worship
1 Chronicles 29:9-11
[9] Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord : and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
[10] Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
[11] Thine, O Lord , is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine ; thine is the kingdom, O Lord , and thou art exalted as head above all.

A pastor that does not preach giving can contribute to the lack of understanding of God's will in your life and you not being blessed.  Giving tithes and offerings is an opportunity to move the gospel, provide for the ministry and bless God.  We should look forward to an opportunity to give and to give sacrificially because God is our provider.  We should trust Him with our finances because its all His anyhow.

Psalm 50:10
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
