Thankfulness is something more than being polite. We thank people because it is the right thing to do, but thanking God (also the right thing to do) has spiritual consequences. In our prayer closets, we are to thank God. It is a commandment:
1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks unto the Lord , call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
We are blessed through our obedience, but what are the results of our thanksgiving? The following list three things that happen when we are thankful:
1. We enter the presence of God
Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
2. We bless God
Deuteronomy 8:10 When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
3. We are in His will
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
As a Christian, we should give thanksgiving everyday. I love the holiday of thanksgiving, but our thanking God has eternal and spiritual results. Being in His will is like jumping into a pool on the hottest day of the year. It is amazingly refreshing. In giving thanks, we also bless God and it gives an opportunity to enter into the presence of the Most High God. There is power in being thankful to God.
