The first mention of God resting is found in the book of Genesis:
Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
The word “rested” in Genesis 2 is defined in the Hebrew as “to cease”. God stopped the process of Creation.
In Acts 7, Stephen was preaching to Sanhedrin Court and he quoted Isaiah 66:1:
Acts 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
When Stephen preached this sermon, he used the Greek word “katapausis” and according to Dake’s Study Bible it refers to the “complete putting down of enemies where one can rest secure from any danger of further uprising.”
The enemy of our soul/the accuser of the brethren will come against you in your Christian walk, but if we stay in His presence during our trial we will abide in His rest that will subdue the enemy. It was Isaiah that prophesied:
Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
God does not dwell in temple or churches. God does not dwell in buildings, but He dwells in us. When we pray, fast and study the Word, God will protect His people from the enemy. The enemy will try to destroy you, but if you stay faithful - God will protect you in His rest.
