A few weeks ago, I was listening to Christian radio and a gentleman was commenting on the need for rest. His comments continued with his telling of his arrangement with his wife to set aside Sundays as a day of rest (after church, of course). It was family time for him and his wife.
My wife and I have discussed this and have decided to try and do the same thing (It does not always happen). Therefore, I will not post a blog on Sunday. Obviously, my calling as a pastor has me working on Sunday. For those that are not familiar with our church, we are a home missions church that is required to set up prior to service and tear down after service. I actually enjoy the whole experience, but this arrangement also requires us to rent and load a UHaul every weekend. We move everything from folding walls to flower arrangements. When you throw in preaching and teaching Sunday school (I teach the youth class), I feel like I have run a marathon. As a Pentecostal preacher, I can get a little excited. I know the feeling when the prophet stated:
Jeremiah 20:9...But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones...
The time you spend with your family is an investment. It is an investment in your marriage, your children and their future as well as an eternal investment in your family as a whole. I encourage you to find some restful time with your family this week. The best way I can put it is that it will help you.
