I recently authored an article for a ministry newsletter (I will post it after the ministry uses it) and I used a scripture that I have used while preaching at Cornerstone Chapel and it simply says...
John 4:4And he must needs go through Samaria.
This scripture is speaking of Jesus and his need to go to Samaria. His desire to go to Samaria was not because it was pleasurable for the Bible states...
John 4:9....Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria.
It was necessary because Jesus needed to speak to a particular person. An outcast among the outcasts, but someone that Jesus chose to speak eternal truths. He did not concern himself with the opinion of others and their ideas of who should hear the truth.
The church has an obligation to follow the example of Jesus and feel the need to reach those that have no hope and society has rejected. Simply, we need to remember the parable...
Luke 8:4And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
Luke 8:5A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
Luke 8:6And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
Luke 8:7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
Luke 8:8And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Luke 8:9And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
Luke 8:10And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Luke 8:11Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
We need to sow the seed...teaching Bible studies and preaching the Word.
Romans 10:14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
There should be an urgency (like Jesus felt to go into Samaria) to reach our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
