The world is filled with religions and even within Christianity there are many versions of what people believe to be the truth. I do find it interesting that people often say I believe, my preacher says or my church preaches. This shows an immaturity in their Christian walk and a reliance on others to teach you the scripture, but the Bible states...
John 5:39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
It also states (and I used this scripture yesterday)...
2Timothy 2:15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
I do not intend to sound hard or difficult, but there is a famine of the Word and people will be easily deceived into believing false doctrine. It is my duty to preach the Word. I do not pastor or preach to be popular or gain notoriety for myself, but to do what Paul commanded...
2Timothy 4:1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Timothy 4:2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Timothy 4:3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Timothy 4:5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
This is not the only warning that we were given...
2Timothy 3:1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Timothy 3:2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Timothy 3:3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Timothy 3:4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Timothy 3:5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
I write this blog for several reasons, but one of my goals is to challenge people to read and study the Word. There will be those that disagree and healthy debate is OK. It is important for me to write, preach and teach using scripture because that is my source for doctrine...
2Timothy 3:14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
2Timothy 3:15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2Timothy 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Timothy 3:17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
