In reading in Luke chapter 4, we find Jesus being tempted by Satan. The exchange between them reveals several things including...
The Power of the Word
Three times within this chapter Jesus refers to the scripture against the temptations of the adversary...
Luke 4:4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Luke 4:8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Luke 4:12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Satan knows the Word
Luke 4:9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
Luke 4:10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
Luke 4:11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
He is quoting Psalms...
Psalms 91:11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
Psalms 91:12They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
With this knowledge, if we look further into this chapter, we see an exchange between Jesus and a demon possessed man. The demon claims to know who Jesus is ...
Luke 4:34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
When praising, the psalmist wrote the following...
Psalms 71:22I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
Of course, we know that even Satan knows that there is only one God...
James 2:19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
We must understand the power of the word and also fully comprehend that we should study it so that we can stand against the attacks of the enemy. Our need to understand that Jesus is God is paramount in our Christian walk...
John 8:24I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
