The ministry of Jesus is fascinating and it is a model for our ministry. In Luke 9, we read the following....
Luke 9:1Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
Luke 9:2And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Perhaps, this scripture would not normally pop off the page for you, but it struck a chord with me. Recently, the leadership within Cornerstone Chapel has been encouraged to find a place to preach the kingdom of God. We call it the Principles of Influence taken from the quote of leadership guru John Maxwell, Leadership is influence.
The concept is simple. We are taking the gospel to venues that are open to us teaching the Word including a detention facility among others. As a pastor, I have become more convinced that those that are able to do so should be teaching the gospel. Although, we often feel that all teaching and preaching is done within the four walls of the church building, our leaders are challenged to teach outside the church. This may include one on one Bible studies, but also organized small groups wherever available.
Recently, Cornerstone Chapel has heard this scripture many times, but it has been laid upon me and I cannot seem to shake it...
2Timothy 4:2Preach the word...
That is our mission!
