Daniel the 3rd chapter tells of one the great miracles within the scripture.  For the sake of time, I will summarize it, but will interject a few scriptures to help tell the story.
In the year 597 BC, the Babylonians (from modern day Iraq) captured the city of Jerusalem.  Following the siege, the Babylonians deported and exiled many Jewish people including four men that became advisors to King Nebuchadnezzar.  They ascended to these positions because of their knowledge, skills and appearance.  They served the king as loyal subjects, but as time past, the king built a huge statue…

Daniel 3:1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

This statue was not ordinary nor was it harmless for it was commanded that all people bow down at the statue when the trumpets blew.  If there was anyone that had the courage to not bow to this idol then it was declared…

Daniel 3:6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Three of the four men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, stood defiant to the orders of the king and did not bow.  Although, they served the King of Babylon, their first allegiance was to the God of Israel and His commandments.  They knew God’s Word commanded Exodus 20….

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them…

The defiance of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not go unnoticed and the men were brought before the King.  King Nebuchadnezzar questioned them in Daniel 3:14 – 15…

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

The Message Bible states it like this…

Who is the god that can rescue from my power?

Shadrach. Meshach and Abednego continued their insolence towards the king (God’s Word Version)…

Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, "We don't need to answer your last question.
Daniel 3:17 If our God, whom we honor, can save us from a blazing furnace and from your power, he will, Your Majesty.
Daniel 3:18 But if he doesn't, you should know, Your Majesty, we'll never honor your gods or worship the gold statue that you set up."

Their continued stance infuriated the king and he commanded that they be thrown in the fiery furnace.  In addition to being thrown in the fiery furnace, he commanded that it be heated seven times hotter than normal.  The heat was so great that it killed the soldier that threw the men into the furnace, but the story does not stop there.

The Message Bible records it like this…

24 Suddenly King Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in alarm and said, "Didn't we throw three men, bound hand and foot, into the fire?"     "That's right, O king," they said.
25 "But look!" he said. "I see four men, walking around freely in the fire, completely unharmed! And the fourth man looks like a son of the gods!"

It was King Nebuchadnezzar that asked the question, “Who is that God?”, and it was God Almighty that answered it by showing up in the fiery furnace and delivering them.

There are people all over the world today that ask,  “Who is that God?”   Man is born with a void in his life and we spend our life attempting to fill that emptiness.  There are those that worship idols or deny God altogether.  Even more so, there are many that attempt to fill the void in their life with the pleasures of this life, but if you are asking, “Who is that God?” this morning, I want to take a few minutes and introduce you to Him…

The God that I serve has a name…It is not Buddha or Allah, but Jesus and He is all powerful…

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth...

Unlike the friends and things of this world that are temporary, Jesus will never leave us for He states in (God’s Word)…

Matthew 28:20 Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. "And remember that I am always with you until the end of time."

Further more, He is our friend…

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

He is not just any friend, but one that died for us revealing His great love…

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Although perfect, it was through His death, He carried our sins and sorrows and it is from the wounds he sustained from the whip that we are healed…(Message Bible)…

Isaiah 53:4 But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.  We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures.
Isaiah 53:5 But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole.    Through his bruises we get healed.

Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, His death did not finish the story for He the Bible states He arose from the grave…

Matthew 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

And it was through his resurrection that we have the ability to have life and have it more abundantly through the power of the Holy Spirit (Amplified)…

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

Jesus wants us to have a relationship with Him today and it s through this relationship that we can make it to heaven…

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
