Acts 4:12 states...

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The Message Bible translates it as...

"Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one."

Perhaps, there is a question in your mind to what name they are referring.  The previous scriptures state...

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

Although, there are those that would debate the doctrine of the Apostles especially concerning baptism.  This debate has raged for centuries since the formation of the doctrine referred to as the Trinity.  The MSN Encarta Encyclopedia speaks of the Trinity as being formulated well after the death of Jesus Christ...

In the 4th century, the doctrine was finally formulated; using terminology still employed by Christian theologians, the doctrine taught the coequality of the persons of the Godhead.

If we examine the doctrine taught by the first church, we can understand the importance of the name especially in baptism...

Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 8:15 - 17 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

This is a partial, but compelling list.  It is important to know and understand the scripture.  The apostles understood the importance of the name.  They were there when Jesus said the Holy Ghost would come in His name...

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

I have written several times within this blog on the name of Jesus.  We must understand the doctrine of the first church and not become tied into the doctrine that evolved in the fourth century.  That is why Paul wrote to Timothy...

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
