I understand that people desire to have the scripture apply to their life today.  This is an obvious movement within the Christianity and I fully understand this concept.  Although, the Bible is thousands of years old, its message is alive in the world today. What I do not comprehend is the idea that doctrine is no longer necessary as long as we have love and the "warm and fuzzies".  David said in Psalms 119...

8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
12 Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.

Doctrine matters.  In Paul's first letter to Timothy, we find Paul instructing Timothy concerning those that had started teaching false doctrine.  Timothy had been charged with pastoring the church at Ephesus after they had turned away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Paul wrote (Amplified Version)...

3 As I urged you when I was on my way to Macedonia, stay on where you are at Ephesus in order that you may warn and admonish and charge certain individuals not to teach any different doctrine,
4 Nor to give importance to or occupy themselves with legends (fables, myths) and endless genealogies, which foster and promote useless speculations and questionings rather than acceptance in faith of God's administration and the divine training that is in faith (in that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence)--

The church is designed to reach the lost.  We are to minister to the needs of the individual and families, but if we lose sight of the message then we have failed in our mission.  It is not my eloquent teaching style sprinkled with some scripture that will save you from the despair that this world brings, but the Holy Spirit experienced at the altar of repentance.

If you are in need of a change in your life then you need to do as Jesus said John 5...

39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
